Art with Hannah

Hello, I'm Hannah, and the only thing I love even more than making art is helping others to make art.
I'm a qualified art teacher with 20 years' experience teaching adults and children of all ages and abilities. My approach is a tried-and-tested mix of structure (learning the 'rules') and experimentation (breaking them again!)
All classes and workshops are held in Shoreham-by-sea, West Sussex.

About me

Courses

Your artistic journey begins with your first course.
If you are a beginner, or want to dust off your skills, I'd recommend starting with 'Learn to draw and paint'. This is a 10-week course (25 hours of tuition) and will give you a good grounding in a wide range of techniques and subject matter.
So many of my students say 'I can't draw' or even 'don't expect much from me' – it’s amazing to see them go on to create artwork they're proud of.
If you'd like to learn to draw or paint, or just long for a more creative life, check out my courses and workshops below!

For beginners

For improvers

Drawing workshops

By popular demand 'Learn to draw' is now also available as drop-in workshops! Tuesdays from 2-4.30pm in the lovely light hall at Shoreham Baptist Church, with a coffee break halfway through.

Watercolour workshops

If you'd like to try watercolours/refresh your skills, why not come along to one of these drop-in workshops? Learn to exploit the translucent quality of watercolours/inks, reserve the white page, and avoid 'overworking' to keep your paintings looking fresh! Each class will begin with techniques such as wet-on-wet, dry brush, and wax resist, then build towards a finished piece for you to take home.

Acrylic workshops

If you've never tried acrylics or want to dust off your skills, these workshops are for you! Acrylics are so vibrant and fun to use, and are much more 'forgiving' than watercolours, as you can keep layering paint to your heart's content. You will begin with colour-mixing and acrylic techniques like impasto and sgraffito, then complete a finished piece to take home.

Workshops @ Ropetackle

If drawing is not your cup of tea but you still want to get crafty and creative, try one of my collage, mixed media & craft workshops! These are held from 2-4pm in the lovely light cafe at Ropetackle Arts Centre, with a coffee break halfway through.

- Paul Worthley

”Hannah’s courses are a must. I really look forward to my Tuesday afternoons – a great way to meet new people, learn a new skill and have a chat over a cuppa.”

- Sarah Tuck

”I signed up for the Learn to Draw class as I genuinely couldn't draw a thing. Thank you Hannah for showing me the basics so now at least my grandchildren have a vague idea of what I'm drawing!
